And a bigotry problem (“Racism simmers below surface on health care,” Sun Times, March 23). Oh yeah, and what can only be called some sort of comprehensive thinking problem (“24% of GOPers Believe Obama’s the Antichrist,” Newser, March 23).

It seems like the Right could take a cue from House Democrat John Larson — who, in response to reports of Tea Party bigotry, suggested “everybody ought to ratchet back just a little bit” (“House Republicans denounce racial slurs hurled at Democrats,” CNN, March 21). Responding, House Republican Eric Cantor said, “It’s time to listen to the American people.” Well, we’ve been listening, Cantor, and it doesn’t sound good.

Following passage of the historic health care reform bill, American Thinker asked, “Where Were You When the Republic Died?” Capital Hill blog warned of “20 Ways ObamaCare Will Take Away Our Freedoms.” Rush Limbaugh screamed “America Hangs by a Thread.” And according to Glenn Beck, “the fruit of this [health care] tree is extraordinarily evil.”

Well, no wonder Americans confuse fact with fiction! Extreme right-wing elements in the media don’t think twice about comparing the masterminds of health reform and the Holocaust (“We have something to fear from fear-mongering itself,” Washington Post, March 24).

As for the Pearl Harbor analogy, let’s put this into perspective: Thousands of Americans haven’t been incinerated in their sleep; rather, millions of Americans will now be able to afford health insurance (“A date which will live in infirmary,” Drudge Report, March 22). It’s like comparing apples and mass murder.
But now Republicans have backed themselves into a corner (“Nasty rhetoric could backfire on bill’s foes,” SFgate, March 23). They’ve got to keep upping the outrage ante, despite the fact that the health care bill is quite similar to previous Republican proposals (“Healthcare reform bill included big GOP idea,” Miami Herald, March 24).

The Party of No has promised to continue its obstruction (“McCain: Don’t expect GOP cooperation on legislation for the rest of this year,” The Hill, March 22). It’ll be up to voters in November to decide whether they want real change, or more of the same
