  • The Student Loan BUBBLE

    This letter tickled my fancy:

The idea that every high-school graduate will be well served by a college education is nothing but liberal conceit.

Forget the poor labor market for graduates and the appalling cost of the attempted education, and concentrate on the fact that not everyone has an interest in learning uninteresting things with time out for navel- gazing. Even panty raids, a high point of campus life some 50-odd years ago, are no longer a challenge.

What we need is what we once had: vocational schools with an emphasis on usable skills. Liberals may want to see a sheepskin nailed to every foreclosed house, but I don’t.

    Paul Bloustein  from Cincinnati

Since there really hasn’t been a witty neo-con talk-radio host since Matt Drudge retired years ago–Glenn Beck came close, but we all know that was absurdist theatrics–i’ll give Paul Bloustein credit for that sheepskin nailed to every foreclosed house line…although he may have copped it from Dennis Miller, who does average about two witty remarks a month

Today i overheard some med school interns lamenting the poor job prospects they’re facing, but most of that is due to all the gloom and doom economic news that is filtered down to them…i sincerely doubt they have the time to read three newspapers a day to average out the information in order to get a sense of what’s really happening.

What Bloustein and his neo-con buddies fail to realise is that the majority of student loans are more than likely going to diploma mill trade schools that have little, if any, regulation!

Most kids graduating high school are lured by the healthcare industry which promises good jobs with as little as six months further schooling…what they’re not told is that these “schools” are churning out around a thousand “graduates” a year–and if you have only ten of these schools in a small city like Cincinnati, then you have 10,000 people a year vying for a limited number of [usually] unionized jobs–so what often happens is you end up with a 4.0 GPA and a job at a temp agency making half, if you’re lucky, the pay that the school that gave you the worthless diploma advertized…even though that pay actually IS the going rate

Make no mistake, there is a student loan bubble, and the GOP’s bright idea to double interest rates for students will only make the bubble pop sooner…what NEEDS to be done is to rein in both the university and “trade” school diploma mills.

Allowing a major in Paleolithic cave paintings with a minor in antediluvian UFO folklore should be criminal…as should a carpentry “trade” school that doesn’t offer you electives in guitar or cabinet making…a possible source of some real lucrative income

Romney is supposed to fix the shit that Obama did to fix the shit that GW did who was fixing the shit Clinton did because George the First got us off track after Reagan fixed the shit that Carter did…..

    Fuck ‘em ALL droogs
